Medicare Help in Webb City, MO

By Matt Temmen, Springfield, MO · Updated 2026-10-19

Webb City is right next door to Joplin. It's about 13,000 people per the 2020 Census, and our Joplin office is only about 15 minutes away.

Since you're so close, I want to give Webb City folks something practical. Not a sign-up guide. A yearly checkup for the Medicare you already have.

Because here's the truth. Medicare plans can change every year. And it's easy to skip looking.

Think of it like your fall oil change

Here's the mental model.

You don't wait for the engine light to change your oil. You do it on a schedule. It's quick. It's cheap. And it keeps small problems from turning into big ones.

Your Medicare plan needs the same thing once a year. Fall is the time.

The two dates to put on your fridge

September: Your plan sends an Annual Notice of Change. Medicare.gov says it should arrive in September. It tells you what's changing for January. Costs, coverage, drug list, and more.

October 15 to December 7: Open Enrollment. This is when you can switch Medicare Advantage plans, switch drug plans, or move between Medicare Advantage and Original Medicare. Your plan has to get your request by December 7. New coverage starts January 1.

If you do nothing, you usually stay in your plan. Whatever it changed kicks in January 1.

My 5-point Medicare checkup

Here's what I'd check every fall. It takes maybe 20 minutes with the right info.

1. Read your Annual Notice of Change

Don't toss it. Look for changes to your premium, copays, and drug list. If you didn't get one, call your plan.

2. Check your doctors

Networks can change. Are your Freeman or Mercy doctors still in the plan for next year? Check every one, including specialists.

3. Check your drugs

Write down every prescription, with the dose. Is each one still covered next year? Did any move to a higher tier? Any new rules, like prior approval?

For 2027, there's a yearly cap on what you pay out of pocket for covered Part D drugs. It's $2,400. And no drug plan can have a deductible over $700.

4. Check your pharmacy

Is your Webb City pharmacy still in the network? Is it preferred or standard? Same drug, same plan, different pharmacy, different price.

5. Check what changed in your life

New diagnosis? New specialist? Planning more travel? Any of those can change which plan fits best.

Have a Medicare Supplement? You still need a checkup.

Supplement plans are standardized, so the benefits don't shift around year to year like Advantage plans can. But if you have a separate Part D drug plan, that plan can change every January. So steps 3 and 4 still apply to you.

Missed Open Enrollment?

If you're in a Medicare Advantage plan, you get one more shot. From January 1 to March 31, you can make one change. You can switch to another Advantage plan, or go back to Original Medicare and add a drug plan.

Outside those windows, you generally need a qualifying event, like a move.
